Unveiling the grandeur of Echo Wood: A living masterpiece
A breathtaking vision of nature's art awaits!
Imagine a forest, a living, breathing artwork, where hundreds of lanterns illuminate the night, revealing a masterpiece in the making. Echo Wood, a project by renowned artist Luke Jerram, is set to transform the landscape between Bristol and Bath.
But here's where it gets controversial... Jerram, known for his grand installations, is creating an event space that invites creativity and interaction. Echo Wood will feature 365 unique tree species, arranged in a circular pattern, forming a permanent installation at the heart of the new Lower Chew Forest in Compton Dando.
"It's an exciting glimpse into the future," Jerram shared, "a chance to witness the scale and beauty of this artwork."
And this is the part most people miss... Echo Wood is not just about the trees; it's about the space it creates, a canvas for generations to come. "When you leave room for creativity, magic happens," Jerram added.
Created by Avon Needs Trees, a charitable organization, the Lower Chew Forest aims to boost woodland cover in the Bristol Avon catchment, currently lagging behind the national average.
"I've always used my art to raise awareness about climate change," Jerram explained, "but Echo Wood is my first project that takes direct action."
The 365 lanterns, crafted by local community groups, showcase the project's shape and scale, adorned with nature-inspired designs. Warrick Barton, head teacher at Pensford Primary School, where students participated in lantern-making, shared, "It's incredible to think of the legacy we're leaving."
Members of the public are invited to sponsor a tree, leaving a message for future generations. "Your legacy, your story, etched into this living artwork," Jerram invited.
