9 year old girl slips into Provo River
SAR was paged out when a 9 year old girl slipped on a mossy rock into the Provo River below Bridal Veil Falls. The family dialed 9-1-1 while running downstream and attempting to pull the girl to safety, but the river running at 440 cfs was too fast and strong.
With assistance from Sundance and Provo Fire and bystanders, the girl was located pinned against a rock in the center of the river between Nunn’s Park and Canyon Glen, and a SAR member who turned out to be a friend of the family’s carried her to shore where CPR began immediately. She was then flown by Life Flight to Primary Children’s Hospital.
Despite the best efforts by family, strangers, and rescuers, the girl died the following day in the hospital. Our deepest sympathies go out to the family for their loss.
