21 year old woman trapped in Stewart Falls

Published by Shaun Roundy under Rescues

A woman was trapped above the final drop of Stewart Falls shortly after noon. The fast current made it impossible for her to cross through the water to the north shore where she could exit the river. Hypothermia was another factor increasing the danger of the situation and further complicating the rescue.

SAR and Sundance Fire responded, and Sundance cheif Kenny Johnson was lowered into the river to retrieve her. This exciting rescue made national news headlines and Kenny and the girl were flown to New York City where they were interviewed on Good Morning America.
